Most people have a model train and train track. Most people have a model train stored in their attics which they used to use a few years ago and lost interest or they inherited one from a relative. However more and more people are becoming interested in model train tracks.
When building your own model train track you should consider what type of landscape that you want, when you buy your model train or the train track you may have received trees, grass, houses and even train stations. Some model trains have themes attached to them, for example country trains are very popular amongst collectors. However there is a whole range that you can choose from.
You can buy kits that include everything that you will need to get started however these can be very expensive so you may wish to start with something small to begin with and expand upon it. There are a number of different places you can buy these kits, specialist model shops often sell them and large toy stores may also sell them.
Of course, the most important thing that you need is the train however equally important is the model train track. You should never buy a track that goes round is a simple circle; you will quickly become bored of these. It's needless to say, without the track the whole kit would be useless.
After you have bought your kit you will find that the tracks are often is small pieces that you will have to put together, this is actually pretty easy and simple to do. If you read the instructions carefully and take your time you could have the track put together in a matter of hours
There are three different types of tracks that are available;
Continuous Loop - This is the standard track that goes round in a circle, these can become boring quickly and are the most basic design available.
Point To Point - This is a long straight track that the train can travel from one end to the other. These often include central stations as well.
Out And Back - Finally we have the out and back track, these tracks are usually quite large and are shaped like a pear. These generally include a station and also may include a traditional train turning station.
I highly recommend that you buy the out and back model train track as these are more exiting and interesting than the standard train tracks that people use. Watching a train go round a circular track came become boring very quickly.
