There are specialist model train stores all over the country; you wouldn't believe how many places sell model trains. Some stores sell basic model train sets while others sell more advanced train sets and scenery, the latter being most expensive of all.
If you go to the wrong store you can easily end up spending several hundred dollars on a basic train set. Of course, the price depends on what kind of train set you want. Model trains for children can be bought quite cheaply as these tend to be very basic and often made of plastic. The more advanced train sets that most adults buy are made of strong plastic and metal, these are not as cheap but are much more detailed and hard wearing than children’s model trains.
It’s important that before you go into a store you know what you are looking for in a model train set. Are you just looking for a basic train, a set or even as custom made model train set? You may decide to create your own scenery however you may wish to buy special tools and equipment to make this from a specialist model train store.
I personally recommend that you start small with just a small track and a train or two, you may loose interest in model trains quickly so spending a lot of money right away in a model train store isn’t a wise idea.
Instead of going to a model train store you may find it easier and cheaper to buy everything you need online. There are a number of different retailers that online that offer low cost train sets. You will also have a wider choice or trains, tracks, equipment and scenery.
Finally you will also need to know how much trains sets and equipment generally cost, the prices vary from shop to shop a lot so be careful that you are not paying to much from the model train shop you decide to go to. So always shop around, go to two or three different stores before you make a purchase.
